How to Improve Feedback Ratings

  1. Write Accurate Descriptions of your items

    • Include all the important details about your item in your listing
    • Make your description easy to read. Buyers are less likely to misread your listing if the description is clear, so use short paragraphs, bullets and bold headings.
    • Display multiple pictures of your item from different angles so buyers can fully inspect it.
    • Where possible, use pictures of the actual item you're selling, not manufacturer supplied pictures, especially if the item is used.
    • Be honest about the condition of your item. If it has defects, describe them all so buyers can make a fully informed decision.
    • Avoid potentially confusing terms such as "like new". Many buyers will only notice the word "new" and expect to receive a new item. If they receive a used one, they may leave a negative rating.
    • Fill out the item input form with as many details as possible and include important details like height, width, weight, color, and quantity. Your buyers will appreciate that.
    • Avoid making sensational statements about your item that can't be proven (eg. Fastest ever made, Best in the world!!!)

  2. Communicate With Your Customer

    • Be sure to put the details of your Shipping & Handling, Returns and Payment policies in your listings. As written in our Trading Rules, any detail not included in a listing, is non-existent, and non-enforceable.
    • Where possible, include a Frequently Asked Questions section in your listings. Buyers appreciate it when all the information is in front of them.
    • Create automatic responders, so that when buyers send you email, they immediately get a response. Later you can follow up with a more specific and detailed response.
    • Be courteous and grateful in your email. For example, follow each sale with a message that says "Thank you for placing your order with us. Your order has been processed, and as promised, your items have been shipped to you within two business days. We appreciate your business and look forward to serving you in the future."
    • Regardless of your buyer's personality, maintain a calm, professional attitude during all your communications with them. Buyers are more likely to do the same when communicating with you, and you will retain more customers that way.

  3. Ship Items as soon as possible

    • Ship items as soon as you receive payment. As soon as buyers place an order, they're expecting their items.
    • Offer at least one shipping service that uses tracking numbers. This is required for Escrowed payments.
    • Include your complete shipping policy in the shipping and handling section of your listing. Remember, according to our Trading Rules, any detail not included in a listing, is non-existent, and non-enforceable.
    • Be very clear and specific about your shipping services and explain the delivery time for each service.
    • Consider purchasing shipping insurance or use a shipping service that offers shipping loss and damage protection. If necessary, add the insurance cost to your handling fee or include it in the item price.

  4. Use reasonable shipping charges in your listings

    • Use a shipping calculator to determine the actual shipping cost to the buyer.
    • Spell out your services and costs in the Shipping and Handling section of your listing.
    • Consider offering discounts for shipping multiple items in one order. It's a great way to show customers other items they can purchase and save on shipping too.
    • Offer free shipping. Buyers love free shipping and you may get more hits during their search. Listings with free shipping are displayed before listings with shipping charges.
    • List the details of your Returns policy in the Returns portion of your listing. Remember, according to our Trading Rules, any detail not included in a listing, is non-existent, and non-enforceable.
